A fourth-generation Teamster from Medford, Massachusetts, O'Brien joined Local 25 at age 18, rose to become its youngest president in 128 years, and grew its membership by more than 30 percent. Elected Eastern Region Vice President in 2011, he won the union's general presidency in 2021. He also serves on the Massport Board of Directors and as co-chairman of the New England Teamsters Pension Fund.
Represents approximately 23,000 fire fighters across New England on the IAFF executive board. A veteran of the Somerville, Massachusetts Fire Department since 1988, Colbert served as President of Somerville Local 76 for 12 years and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts. A graduate of UMass School of Business and the Harvard University Trade Union Program.

Previously spent a decade as IHG's EVP, General Counsel & Company Secretary. Durham University graduate.
